![]() ![]() ![]() Twin 3 is available in formats compatible with all current mainstream hosts. Still, a case can be made that Twin 3 does subtractive better than any alternative at the moment, so for some musicians that should be enough.įirst let’s dispense with the necessary particulars. Subtractive is what you get and all you get. To be sure, Twin 3 is still a subtractive synth – you’ll find no FM, no wave tables, no granular oscillators, or some of the other accoutrement of many of the high-end hybrid synths released in the last few years. Nonetheless, fourteen years after the release of Twin 2 we see a major upgrade with significant new features and what is reported to be a complete revision of the code base (with an iOS version forthcoming as well). But along the way, the synthesizer side of FabFilter has been largely forgotten. You get the idea: FabFilter has become widely admired and respected for their virtual effects. ![]() I’d personally vote for their distortion/saturation effect, Saturn 2, for that honor as well. Their EQ, Pro Q 3, is regarded by many as best-in-breed. The company went on to great acclaim to produce some of the finest utAility and Acreative plug-in audio effects in the business. That was it instrument-wise for a long time. The following year saw the release of a successor, Twin, and four years after that came Twin 2. FabFilter’s first released product was a software synthesizer called One that appeared in 2004. ![]()
